Palm frond stems (the trunks)
A palm leaf stem is so strong and light that people weave baskets and build roofs from it.
Palms stand for resilience and peace.

Printed and framed to order, ready to hang when it arrives. Printed on premium luster paper with rich color and fine detail, protected behind a clear acrylic front, and set in a solid wood frame: White (gallery white), Black (matte black) or Red Oak (warm wood).
Printed to order on thick matte paper, shipped rolled for your own frame. We use 189 gsm (10.3 mil) matte paper with a smooth, glare-free finish and archival inks. It ships rolled in a sturdy cardboard tube, may hold a slight curl, and flattens overnight under a book. It fits any standard frame of that size. Prefer it framed? Choose Framed above for a solid wood frame in White, Black or Red Oak.
Available in 10″×10″ and 16″×16″.
Hanging hardware is included. These measurements refer to the print size. The wood frame adds about 0.75″ on each side, so the framed piece is roughly 1.5″ wider and taller than the print.
For unframed prints, the selected size is the paper size and fits a standard frame of that size. A frame adds about 1 inch on each side.
“Every leaf, twig, petal, and seed becomes a brushstroke.”
I dedicated this piece to Jane Goodall, the legendary primate researcher who devoted her life to protecting and caring for monkeys and apes in the wild. The green pods at the bottom are jacaranda, and so are the leaves. The branch the monkey swings from is made of dried palm leaflets.

The Botanicals Behind the Artwork
Shirley arranged each leaf, pod, stem, and natural fiber by hand before photographing the finished composition.
A palm leaf stem is so strong and light that people weave baskets and build roofs from it.
Palms stand for resilience and peace.
Palm leaflets fold along a crease like a fan, which lets them shed heavy rain in seconds.
Leaves mean shelter and growth.
Coconut husk fiber is so tough that ropes made from it can hold a boat in salt water.
Fiber stands for strength woven from small things.
A single date palm can carry hundreds of dates in one hanging bunch.
Fruit clusters mean abundance and sweetness to come.
Jacaranda leaves look just like fern fronds, which is why they fool so many eyes, and the tree is famous for its purple bloom each spring.
Jacaranda stands for wisdom and rebirth.
A sprout pushes up with a bent neck first, so the tender tip is protected until it reaches the light.
Sprouts mean fresh starts.
Palm leaflets fold along a crease like a fan, and even dried they stay strong enough to weave into rope and baskets.
A swing stands for play and letting go.
A jacaranda pod is a flat round wooden disc that snaps open into two halves to let its papery seeds fly.
Green pods stand for growth still in progress.
