Materials & framing

Printed and framed to order, ready to hang when it arrives. Printed on premium luster paper with rich color and fine detail, protected behind a clear acrylic front, and set in a solid wood frame: White (gallery white), Black (matte black) or Red Oak (warm wood).

Size & fit

Available in 8″×10″ and 16″×20″.

Hanging hardware is included. These measurements refer to the print size. The wood frame adds about 0.75″ on each side, so the framed piece is roughly 1.5″ wider and taller than the print.

Shirley Regev, the artist

The Story Behind the Artwork

“Every leaf, twig, petal, and seed becomes a brushstroke.”

It began with mandalas made from leaves, twigs, petals, and seeds, arranged on the ground and left for the wind to scatter. Then something unexpected happened. I began to see women's faces in the trunks and branches of trees, and I could not ignore them.

I started collecting natural materials and, back home, carefully composed these faces by hand. Without realizing it, I had found my own artistic language. Every portrait like this one speaks it, and each brings a face the trees showed me into your home.

The Botanicals Behind the Artwork

5 real botanicals composed the original artwork

Shirley arranged each leaf, pod, stem, and natural fiber by hand before photographing the finished composition.

Sunflower petals (the hair)

A sunflower head is hundreds of flowers in one: every petal belongs to its own tiny floret.

radiance

Dill sprays (in the curls)

Dill's lacy umbrellas are famous butterfly nurseries; swallowtails lay their eggs there.

lightness

Blue delphinium (the collar)

Delphinium takes its name from the Greek for dolphin, after the shape of its unopened buds.

dignity and grace

Seed necklace (the beads)

Seeds are built to wait: some stay viable for decades before choosing their spring.

patience

Fern lashes (the eyes)

Ferns are older than flowers; they were unfurling these same fronds before dinosaurs.
