Printed and framed to order, ready to hang when it arrives. Printed on premium luster paper with rich color and fine detail, protected behind a clear acrylic front, and set in a solid wood frame: White (gallery white), Black (matte black) or Red Oak (warm wood).
Printed to order on thick matte paper, shipped rolled for your own frame. We use 189 gsm (10.3 mil) matte paper with a smooth, glare-free finish and archival inks. It ships rolled in a sturdy cardboard tube, may hold a slight curl, and flattens overnight under a book. It fits any standard frame of that size. Prefer it framed? Choose Framed above for a solid wood frame in White, Black or Red Oak.
Available in 10″×8″ and 20″×16″.
Hanging hardware is included. These measurements refer to the print size. The wood frame adds about 0.75″ on each side, so the framed piece is roughly 1.5″ wider and taller than the print.
For unframed prints, the selected size is the paper size and fits a standard frame of that size. A frame adds about 1 inch on each side.
“Every leaf, twig, petal, and seed becomes a brushstroke.”
This began with a new book I bought for my granddaughter, a story about two squirrels and an acorn. I read it to her again and again, and she enjoyed it every single time. That shared ritual inspired me to create this piece.
A little story became a beautiful memory, and that memory found its way into my art through real leaves and autumn finds. I love the thought of these two squirrels living in a child's room, waiting patiently for their story to be read one more time.

The Botanicals Behind the Artwork
Shirley arranged each leaf, pod, stem, and natural fiber by hand before photographing the finished composition.
Driftwood is wood that has been tumbled smooth by water and bleached pale by long days of sun and salt.
resilience and letting go
Nandina is nicknamed heavenly bamboo, though it is no bamboo at all, and its leaves blaze red in cool weather.
growing affection
Copperleaf is also called Joseph's coat, because each leaf comes splashed with copper, red, pink and green.
balance and grace
A seed pod is both cradle and catapult, guarding its seeds until the moment comes to fling them free.
potential and new life
An oak can drop tens of thousands of acorns in a good year, feeding whole forests of squirrels and jays.
strength and potential
Dusty miller's silvery fuzz is really a coat of tiny hairs that bounce back sunlight and trap moisture.
cherished protection
Leaves arrange themselves cleverly to avoid shading one another, a tidy spiral pattern called phyllotaxis.
