Dayflower (Commelina)
True-blue flowers are rare in nature because plants have to bend red pigments with tricks of acidity to fake the color.
Blue flowers symbolize calm, trust, and reaching for the unreachable.

“Every leaf, twig, petal, and seed becomes a brushstroke.”
Throughout all the years I practiced yoga, Tree Pose was always the most challenging posture for me. Later, when I had to stop practicing, yoga never really left my body. It stayed with me quietly, part of my movement and my memory.
When my yogi figures began to emerge from the objects I had gathered, this was the very first pose that came to life. It was spring, the trees were beginning to bud and blossom, and the season itself seemed to guide the creation. In a home, I hope she does what the pose always asked of me: find your balance, and bloom.

The Botanicals Behind the Artwork
Shirley arranged each leaf, pod, stem, and natural fiber by hand before photographing the finished composition.
True-blue flowers are rare in nature because plants have to bend red pigments with tricks of acidity to fake the color.
Blue flowers symbolize calm, trust, and reaching for the unreachable.
A daisy is really a crowd, not a single flower, its center packed with dozens of tiny florets.
Daisies mean innocence, cheer, and loyal love.
Marigolds are the bodyguards of veggie patches, their strong scent shooing away many pesky bugs.
Marigolds carry warmth, creativity, and remembrance.
Finely divided leaves give a plant more surface to soak up light while losing less to the drying wind.
Delicate foliage stands for playfulness and lightness of spirit.
Those soft fuzzy tails are seed heads dressed in silky hairs that help them float off on a breeze.
Soft grasses evoke gentleness and playful ease.
Straw is just grass stems dried stiff, hollow tubes that once carried water skyward.
Grass represents humility and enduring simplicity.
Leaves are tiny solar panels, turning sunlight, air, and water into the sugar that feeds the whole plant.
Green leaves mean hope, renewal, and vitality.
