Size & fit

Available in 10″×10″ and 16″×16″. Hanging hardware is included.

Shirley Regev, the artist

The Story Behind the Artwork

“Every leaf, twig, petal, and seed becomes a brushstroke.”

This piece grew from the same childhood place I return to again and again: my grandparents' garden, with its old wheelbarrow standing among the plants. The garden was full of life and memories, and small moments from it keep finding their way into my art.

Here that memory became figures side by side, composed by hand from real flowers and leaves. To me they carry the warmth of people who share a garden and a childhood. In a home, I hope they bring that feeling of togetherness, of growing up and growing things side by side.

The Botanicals Behind the Artwork

8 real botanicals composed the original artwork

Shirley arranged each leaf, pod, stem, and natural fiber by hand before photographing the finished composition.

Dark round seed pods (the heads)

Nature loves packing a whole future plant into one hard little ball that can nap for years before sprouting.

Seeds and pods stand for potential and new beginnings.

Round green leaves (possibly nasturtium)

Nasturtium leaves do a trick called the lotus effect where water beads up and rolls off like tiny marbles.

Nasturtium means patriotism and conquest, and victory in battle.

Citrus slices (possibly kumquat)

Kumquats are the rebels of the citrus world since you eat the sweet peel and skip the sour inside.

Citrus symbolizes good fortune and prosperity.

Yellow bells (Tecoma stans)

Freesia buds line up on one side of the stem then bend upward so every bloom faces the sun politely.

Freesia stands for trust, friendship and thoughtfulness.

Magenta geranium bloom

Crush a geranium leaf and it can smell like roses, mint, lemon or even chocolate depending on the type.

Geranium signifies true friendship and good health.

Red silk cotton flower (Bombax ceiba)

Bougainvillea's showy color is not actually petals but papery leaves called bracts hugging tiny real flowers.

Red petals traditionally carry passionate love.

Twig with catkins (possibly willow)

Willow catkins are so keen to bloom they often pop out before the leaves even wake up in spring.

Willow represents resilience and the ability to bend without breaking.

Ear pod tree pod (Enterolobium) (the head)

A single poppy seed head is a natural salt shaker holding thousands of poppy-seed-sized seeds.

Poppies symbolize remembrance and restful sleep.
