Shirley Regev, the artist

The Story Behind the Artwork

“Every leaf, twig, petal, and seed becomes a brushstroke.”

As a little girl, I dreamed of becoming an artist. I could not wait for my first art lessons at school. Instead, a few discouraging words from my teacher made me question my ability, and my confidence disappeared almost overnight. For many years I believed that chapter of my life had ended.

But some dreams do not disappear. They simply wait patiently until we are ready to find them again. Every piece I create is proof of that, and each one carries a quiet reminder into your home: it is never too late to return to what you love.

The Botanicals Behind the Artwork

7 real botanicals composed the original artwork

Shirley arranged each leaf, pod, stem, and natural fiber by hand before photographing the finished composition.

Sunflower (Helianthus)

A daisy is really two flowers in one, a ring of petals hugging a center crammed with hundreds of tiny florets.

innocence and loyal love

Eucalyptus bark

Bark is a tree's skin and armor at once, shielding the living wood from fire, frost, and hungry insects.

protection and endurance

Date palm spikelets

Hollow reeds are surprisingly strong, and were shaped into some of the very first writing pens and flutes.

flexibility and adaptability

Wood sorrel leaves (Oxalis)

These shamrock-shaped leaflets fold up and sleep at night, then open again to greet the morning light.

luck and light-heartedness

Lantana flower clusters (orange and red)

Lantana blooms change color as they age, so one little cluster can wear yellow, orange, and pink at once.

steadfastness and shared feeling

Lavender flower spike

Salvia belongs to the sage clan, whose square stems quietly give away every member of the mint family.

wisdom and long life

Japanese maple leaves (the potted plant)

Japanese maples can hold their fiery red right through the season, not just for a few weeks in autumn.

elegant and enduring beauty
