“Every leaf, twig, petal, and seed becomes a brushstroke.”
I call this one my catch of the day. One of my walks happened to pass the magnificent Tipuana tipu just after it had been pruned while covered in spectacular blossoms. What might look like discarded branches to others became a treasure waiting to be discovered.
A new creation begins with what nature leaves behind. That is one of my favorite truths about this work, and it is why I love where these pieces end up: something the world almost threw away becomes the golden detail that makes a room glow.

The Botanicals Behind the Artwork
Shirley arranged each leaf, pod, stem, and natural fiber by hand before photographing the finished composition.

Poinciana leaflets fold together at dusk, a nightly bow scientists call sleep movement in plants.
Feathery leaves suggest lightness and quiet grace.
The three-cornered leek earns its name from its triangular stem, roll it between your fingers and you can feel all three edges.
Allium blooms stand for unity and patience.
Bougainvillea color does not come from petals at all, the papery blooms are actually modified leaves called bracts.
Bougainvillea stands for passion and warm welcome.
