The giraffe is not one of Africa's Big Five, but to me she is truly one of the most extraordinary animals, magnificent, unique, and noble. Her incredible height has always fascinated me, and there is a beautiful contrast in her: a sense of gentleness and grace alongside a powerful, unforgettable presence.
I once had the privilege of feeding a giraffe at a wildlife rescue center in Kenya, an experience that deepened my admiration for this remarkable creature. I composed her here from real leaves and blooms, and I love the thought of her standing tall and gentle in a child's room or a family home.

Shirley arranged each leaf, pod, stem, and natural fiber by hand before photographing the finished composition.
Cassia fistula and carob pods (the horns)
Curved pods like carob dry hard and sweet, and carob has long stood in as a chocolate substitute.
Seed pods represent promise, fertility and hidden sweetness.
Palm leaf base fiber (the face)
A single big leaf can gather more sun than a handful of small ones, at the cost of tearing in wind.
Broad leaves stand for shelter and generosity.
Fern fronds or rosemary sprigs (the tree)
A fern frond unrolls from a coiled tip called a fiddlehead, opening like a slow green spring.
Ferns symbolize sincerity, shelter and eternal youth.
Ear pod tree seeds (Enterolobium) (the nose and eye)
Dark berries pack pigments that double as sunscreen for the seeds tucked inside them.
Berries signify abundance and quiet reward.
Dried catkin or flower spike (the mane)
