Early morning, a walk through the nature reserve, and a fleeting moment. A glance that lasted only a second. He looked at me, and I looked back. Then he leapt away and disappeared, leaving behind a small but unforgettable encounter.
I carried that second home with me and composed it by hand from nature's own materials, so it would not be lost. That is what this piece offers a home: a wild, quiet moment that never runs away.

Shirley arranged each leaf, pod, stem, and natural fiber by hand before photographing the finished composition.
Cotton bolls (the muzzle and ears)
Cotton fluff is a seed's travel gear, built to catch the wind and float the seeds to new soil.
Cotton stands for comfort, warmth and protection.
Palm fiber and dried banana peel (the face and neck)
As a leaf dries its cells collapse and curl, which is why old leaves feel like brittle parchment.
Weathered leaves signify endurance and graceful aging.

A pod is basically a lunchbox for seeds, keeping them dry and safe until it is time to open.
