The Story Behind the Artwork
“Every leaf, twig, petal, and seed becomes a brushstroke.”
I knew from the very beginning that the Cape plumbago flowers would become the sky. Their soft color and quiet presence called for a peaceful yoga pose, one of stillness, inward reflection, mindfulness, and a sense of wholeness.
I composed the figure by hand beneath that gentle blue, letting the flowers set the mood of the whole piece. She was made for the quiet corners of a home, the reading chair, the bedroom wall, anywhere a moment of stillness is welcome.

Yellow daisy (possibly coreopsis)
Coreopsis seeds look so much like little bugs that the name literally means resembling a tick.
Yellow daisies stand for cheer, love and new beginnings.
Eucalyptus bark (the body)
Driftwood is wood that has been tumbled smooth by water, sometimes drifting for years before landing.
Wood represents grounding, strength and quiet stillness.
Bauhinia leaf (the dress)
The veins fanning across a leaf are its highways, carrying water in and sugar back out.
Green leaves symbolize peace, growth and renewal.
