Printed on premium luster paper with rich color and fine detail, protected behind a clear acrylic front, and set in a wood frame. Choose White, Black, or Red Oak.

The Story Behind the Artwork
“Every leaf, twig, petal, and seed becomes a brushstroke.”
It was the season of the pelicans' migration, and it was also the cotton harvest. At the same time I was working on a new children's book I had written, and the pelican was one of its central characters. The timing felt perfect.
The migrating birds, the freshly gathered cotton, and the story I was creating all came together naturally and inspired this artwork. These companions have been traveling together ever since, and I love the idea of them landing in someone's home and staying.

Shirley arranged each leaf, pod, stem, and natural fiber by hand before photographing the finished composition.
Yellow bells (Tecoma) (the beak)
Yellow is one of the easiest colors for bees to spot, so yellow petals are basically bee bait.
Yellow blooms carry friendship and cheer.
Angelonia flowers (pink)
Tiny massed flowers pool their nectar so pollinators get a full meal from one convenient cluster.
Small pink blossoms mean admiration and gentle affection.
Lichen-covered branch
Lichen is a team-up of fungus and algae, and its presence usually means the local air is nice and clean.
Lichen and old branches symbolize patience and quiet endurance.
